Finding a pest in an image is only one step. A field treatment decision also depends on image quality, pest life stage, density, crop stage, biological thresholds, uncertainty, and the location where action may be justified.

Swathmark is being built to connect those inputs to a traceable treatment, no-treatment, or abstain decision.

How Swathmark is being built

From operational capture to a traceable local decision.

  1. Capture

    Register the field, crop, capture session, camera rig, calibration, operating geometry, and required metadata.

  2. Verify

    Validate data rights, provenance, metadata completeness, calibration status, and image quality before an asset enters the learning workflow.

  3. Detect

    Apply versioned computer-vision models to identify relevant pests, life stages, and spatial observations.

  4. Decide

    Evaluate model outputs, biological context, uncertainty, and a versioned threshold policy. Produce a treatment, no-treatment, or abstain outcome.

  5. Export

    Represent the decision as a geographic treatment zone and machine-readable decision record for a future third-party equipment interface.

Dedicated treatment machinery is outside the current MVP. Future equipment integration begins from a defined software contract, not from building a machine before the decision engine is validated.

Detection estimates what is present in imagery. A decision additionally requires verified inputs, biological thresholds, uncertainty handling, and traceability — the four things that let a treatment be defended, and corrected if it turns out to be wrong.

What does “abstain” mean?
It means the platform has declined to produce a decision because the evidence or the operating conditions were insufficient to support one. The reason is recorded rather than replaced with a default answer.
